Finals until canvass

Numbers posted tonight are unofficial until a canvass on Nov. 13 by the Board of Election. The News-Journal's numbers do not include "over votes" and "under votes," as reported to the state board. That keeps the totals from matching but does not affect the outcome of the vote.

Any time now

We have someone at the BOE who says results should begin to flow shortly...

First results delayed due to state issue

Normally, we can report absentee and one-stop voting results when polls close at 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. This time, we're told by the Hoke Board of Elections, the state is requiring all counties to delay releasing the numbers because in another county a precinct or precincts did not open on time today. The board has therefore extended their voting time until 8:15. At that time, we're expecting our first results.

Final Totals from Board of Elections

These are the combined totals from the Hoke Board of Elections tonight in three local contested races. These final numbers are a little higher than what was called into us during the live results, because these include mailed ballots, according to the elections director. The addition of the mailed ballots did not change any of the results. These results are directly from hand-delivered printouts from the elections office.

The close commission race between Robert Wright and Lonnie Baldwin is not finalized yet because the elections board has not counted provisional and absentee ballots. Those counts will take place this Friday and next Thursday. All election results are preliminary until the canvass set for March 13.

Additionally, in the DA race, these numbers are only for Hoke County and do not include totals for Moore County, which also voted in that election.

Hoke County Commissioner (Democrat):
James Leach - 3,538
Lonnie Baldwin - 2,494
Robert A. Wright - 2,461

District Attorney (Republican):
Mike Hardin - 1,691
Arthur Donadio - 278

Register of Deeds (Democrat):
Camille Hurst - 3,546
Obie L. Smith - 1,450

We'll have the results of other races in the News-Journal this Wednesday.
